Battery Backup Systems
A standard French drain and sump pump system is great for preventing basement flooding during periods rain. However, the system depends on electricity to power the sump pump that expels water from the system. This can become a liability when you live in the New Jersey, New York area and are faced with extreme weather such as hurricanes or nor’easters that cause power outages. To mitigate these circumstances, Arid Basement Waterproofing can install a battery backup system for your sump pump so that you are prepared for any circumstances.
Over our 60 years installing battery backup systems, we believe we have developed the best system in the business. Many basement waterproofing outfits will simply install an out-of-the-box solution that includes a pump, a power inverter, and a battery all from the same manufacturer. However, we have always found a weak link in these all-in-one solutions.
The New Jersey, New York area experienced Hurricane Irene in 2011. After that major storm, Arid Basement Waterproofing sought out the best components on the market and put together a custom system that we are proud to install for our customers.
We found a strong 1/3 HP pump (Fig. 1) made by a good company that pulls a low 3.6 amps. The less amps pulled by the pump, the longer the battery will last. Then, we found a company that just makes inverters (Fig. 2) and got a hold of their device designed for sump pumps. Lastly, Arid sought out of the best technology for 12V type 31 batteries and found that Interstate batteries were top dog in the industry. We tested these components together in our warehouse and with the pump cycling every 2 minutes, the battery lasted for approximately 28 hours. This was a brand new battery so keep in mind if the system gets used for a bit or it sits idle for 2 years, you will not get 28 hours. That's why replacing the battery every 4-6 years is recommended.
The result is the best battery backup system in the business.
